Meet Laura Kelly
What’s a girl to do when she can’t find adequately adorable and unique birth announcements for her first-born son? If you’re Laura Kelly, you design them yourself. Once this former schoolteacher’s friends and neighbors saw her designs, they wanted her to design their birth announcements also—and their birthday cards, thank-you notes and stationery. She obliged and nine years and a second son later, Laura Kelly is the artist and manufacturer of two design lines, Paper Girls imprintables and personalized stationery, and Laura Kelly Designs, her new product line of ready-to-write gift and stationery items.
Each product in the new Laura Kelly Designs collection evokes memories of playful moments and simple joys as represented in the uncluttered yet childlike artwork that is fun to use and receive. These include her PolkaPlaid and Pladdledot memo pads and note cards—recent add-ons to her popular Polka-Dotted Monogram products, Autograph Posters and Would-Write Memo Pads.
The artist brings the same airy creativity and light-hearted approach to Laura Kelly Designs that has made her Paper Girls line so successful. From their lop-sided smiles and expressive pinpointed eyes, these hundreds of whimsically drawn and illustrated Paper People exist for putting your personality (and your family’s) on paper. And thanks to a licensing agreement with Checks in the Mail, the square-handed people can also grace customer’s checks with over 150 designs.
Word about Laura’s art is spreading from coast-to-coast. Major industry publications, Giftware News., Giftbeat and Party & Paper, will feature stories about Laura Kelly Designs in their upcoming National Stationery Show issues.
If designing and manufacturing two stationery lines weren’t enough, Laura also owns and operates the bubblegum-pink walled Funky Monkey Paperie in the downtown historic district of Apex, NC.
